The consequences of slandering Buddhism, especially Mahayana Buddhism, are very serious. The Sutra of “Buddha Says the Wonderful Dharma Determines Karma Obstacles” says:
“Where the Mahayana scriptures are performed. If there are sentient beings who hear the Mahayana scriptures and are displeased to hear them and slander them, you should know that they are the followers of evil spirits. They slander the Mahayana scriptures.
Death falls into Abi and suffers immeasurably. The resurrected hungry ghost eats fire, feces and urine. Having suffered countless kalpas. People in later generations will be blind, deaf, mute, leprous and leprosy.
After the death of these beings, they will live countless lives. Only then can one meet the Tathagata and receive support from oneself. He was able to hear the Mahayana sutras again in the place of the Buddhas. Pure and unadulterated. “

After hearing this, I asked: “What big mistake did you make that you knew was wrong but couldn’t control it?” Is it drug use or sexual immorality? Xiao Guo said: “It’s not these, it’s more serious than this.” I have been practicing Buddhism for several years, and now I am able to eat vegetarian food, chant sutras, and release animals.
But there is always a big problem: whenever I see Buddhist scriptures saying that we must respect the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, we cannot slander them, otherwise we will suffer retribution, but I just doubt and don’t believe it.
Sometimes they deliberately slander Buddhism to see what the consequences will be. Once, I read the Shurangama Sutra and it said: ‘You practice Samadhi. This is a labor of love. The murderous intention persists. Dust cannot come out. No matter how wise you are. Meditation is present. If you keep killing. Must fall into the divine way.
After reading this passage, I became suspicious again, and even asked my family to buy a fish, kill it and eat it to see what consequences there would be. For this reason, I broke the prohibition on killing. I regretted it afterwards and knew it was wrong, but I just couldn’t control myself. “
“Now that you realize it’s wrong, you should repent.”
“Although I know it’s wrong, I still read Buddhist scriptures sometimes, find problems and then slander them. I know I’ve made mistakes, but I can’t change them. I’m scared. What should I do?”
Looking at Xiao Guo who was like a stubborn stone, he could only use the method of drinking with a diamond rod to wake him up severely. I put on a straight face and said sternly:
“Do you know that the evil karma you have committed by slandering the Buddha and the Dharma will lead you to hell! If you don’t repent deeply, your trip to this world will be in vain and you will fall into hell! You have practiced meditation very hard for several lives. , but because of incorrect knowledge and views,
Just as described in the fifty kinds of evil demons in the Surangama Sutra, when you encounter various auspicious phenomena in meditation, such as seeing various Buddha lands, Buddha statues, various colors of Buddha lights, etc., you will regard illusion as reality, regard falsehood as real, and think that you are enlightened. After enlightenment, strong self-grasping and self-arrogance arise. At this time, evil spirits take advantage of the situation and directly fall into the devil’s path.
The human body is rare and the Dharma is hard to hear. In this life, good conditions have matured and you are given the opportunity to come into contact with the Dharma again. Moreover, you have obtained a male body and become handsome. If you don’t seize the opportunity to practice well and get rid of your wrong views and self-grasping, you will have no chance. ! “
“Then what should I do?” Xiao Guo asked in horror.
“When you go back, you should respectfully place all the Buddhist scriptures that you have slandered in the Buddhist hall or in a clean place. Kneel down and sincerely repent of all the bad deeds you have done to slander the Buddha and the Dharma in the past. You should swear not to slander the Buddha again, and worship sincerely. Every day. Do this until you are truly pure and have no more thoughts of slandering the Dharma.
Moreover, we should read and recite the “Surangama Sutra”, especially the “Fifty Kinds of Evil Demons”, and recite the “Surangama Mantra” to dedicate it. We hope that the Buddha will bless us with the right knowledge and views, and we will have a firm mind to achieve enlightenment. change. Can it be done? “
“Yes, yes, I know. I finally found a cure for my heart disease. It’s great. My disease can be cured.” Looking at Xiao Guo’s expression of shame and excitement, I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery. Become a true disciple of Buddhism and contribute to the cause of spreading Buddhism in the future. Come on, Xiao Guo!
Tip: The Buddha taught in the Mahaparinirvana Sutra:
“Kassapa, there are three people in this world whose illnesses are difficult to cure: one is slandering the Mahayana; two is treason; and three is exegesis. These three illnesses are the most serious in the world, and none of them can be cured by the Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.”
Xiao Guo knew that he was guilty and sought advice from a good teacher when he was unable to correct himself. This shows that he was not just a Chanti. After receiving enlightenment from a good teacher, he had already understood the cause and effect and decided to take heart as a precept and repent and eliminate his sins.
What’s terrible is that some “masters” who wear the cloak of Buddhism openly slander the Buddha and the Dharma in front of the public. They do not abide by Buddhist rules and do not ask their disciples to abide by the precepts, causing a large number of sentient beings to miss the path to Bodhi. It is truly sad and pitiful. !
In the Forty-Eight Vows of Amitabha, one of the conditions for rebirth in the Pure Land is to “remove the five evils and slander the true Dharma.” People in the world must go deep into the scriptures, learn the four laws, and clearly distinguish between right and wrong.
