Tit for Tat

“Ding-ling-ling…” The phone rang suddenly at 12 o’clock in the middle of the night. “Hello, is this Guo Hong? This is Aunt Zhao from the United States. I have something urgent to ask you.” The voice on the other end of the phone was hurried and anxious.

“Aunt Zhao, don’t be anxious, speak slowly.”

“My daughter went to the hospital today and was diagnosed with malignant lung tumor (lung cancer). Now it has spread. The doctor said there is no hope of treatment. Please help us, my daughter is only 33 years old this year. I really don’t know what to do!”

Why did a young man get such a serious disease? A horrific picture during World War II appeared clearly in front of me:

During World War II, in a concentration camp of the German army, groups of naked Jews were driven into several large, dark and dirty houses in batches. The large chimneys on the roofs of each house were still emitting black smoke. These people were collectively poisoned to death by poison gas soon after they entered and never came out again.

And the German officer who drove the Jews into the black house was the previous life of Aunt Zhao’s daughter. This is retribution. The evil karma created in the past life caused these poor sentient beings to die due to inhaling a large amount of toxic gas into their lungs. The retribution in this life has matured, and I have also contracted an incurable disease – lung cancer, and will face the threat of death at any time.

I seriously told Aunt Zhao about the cause and effect. Now the only way to save her daughter is to make her repent in front of the Buddha, eat vegetarian food, and recite the “Ksitigarbha Sutra” every day to dedicate to the sentient beings she has hurt. May they escape from the sea of suffering as soon as possible and be reborn in the good way to get rid of suffering and gain happiness! And we must strictly abide by the precepts, persist in doing good deeds, and try our best to do more meritorious deeds such as giving alms, releasing animals, printing scriptures, etc. to dedicate to the merits. We must persist in doing this, only then can there be hope of survival.

Sharing this article is Dharma giving. The Buddha said that Dharma giving has immeasurable merits.
