The consequences of slave owners
A few years ago, I visited friends in a certain country, and my friend’s family specially invited me to visit a famous paradise somewhere. Not far after entering the gate, a classical luxury carriage stopped right in front of us. I was attracted by the pure white, tall and muscular horse. It has fur as smooth as satin and a horse mane as tall as snow ridges. It is also covered with golden saddle ornaments. It looks so majestic under the bright sunshine of California. It will pull tourists along a fixed route, enjoying the charming scenery while experiencing aristocratic enjoyment. We didn’t plan to get in the car and watched the handsome horse pull the car away vigorously.
Before we knew it, it was already dark, and a group of us returned home enjoying ourselves. As I approached the gate, I saw the foreign horse still pulling tourists away. But at this time, it no longer had the morning energy, its head was drooped, and it took small steps, looking weak and weak. I looked at my watch. It had been at least twelve hours since morning. It was really distressing to see how tired it looked. I couldn’t help but wonder what caused this horse to be so handsome in its previous life, yet it was here pulling carts all day long. How many tourists should it bear on this day? How many tourists should there be in a year? Could it be that it owed so many people debts in its previous life?
After I returned to China, I specifically asked Master Miaofa for advice on this matter. Unexpectedly, I elicited some wonderful teachings from Master:
“This horse was once a white slave owner in his past life. There were more than a hundred black slaves working for him in his manor. The slaves were bullied and oppressed by the slave owner. After the slave owner died, he fell into hell to receive retribution. , the hell has been repaid, and now he has fallen into the realm of animals and been reborn as a horse. His handsome appearance and strong body have made him a tool for making money, and he has suffered from slavery. Although he only oppressed a hundred slaves in his previous life Many, but because he brutally enslaved and abused black people, this was not only a shameful crime against those slaves, but also a trample on humanity and a crime against all mankind. Therefore, now it must be driven by others , sitting on a seat, day after day, without rest, this is the retribution it deserves. He has sinned so much that he has to be a cow or a horse many times. Even if he is reincarnated as a human in the future, he will be poor and humble, and suffer unspeakably.”
After hearing this, I felt as if I was shocked. It turned out that the cute and pitiful Ocean Horse actually had such a disgraceful past. I secretly thought that I must recite the Ksitigarbha Sutra more and dedicate it to Dayangma to help it atone for its sins as soon as possible and escape from the sea of suffering; at the same time, I must recite the Buddha to save the slaves and calm down their overwhelming resentment.
At this time, Malaysian layman Hao who had been listening to the lecture suddenly asked: “Master, our family had a puppy named Winnie when we were in Hong Kong. He has been with me since he was a child. After our family converted to vegetarianism, this dog became very He became spiritual and soon stopped eating meat, which made the whole family very happy. The second year after our family moved to Malaysia, “Winnie” died of old age. We were very sad. My mother even dedicated a memorial ceremony for him in the temple. I built a memorial tablet for the past life and performed religious rituals to transcend it. I wonder if “Winnie” has a good path to past life now? Can Master please help me observe it?”
After a moment of silence, Master replied: “Because the dog listened to sutras and became a vegetarian in your house during his lifetime, and you recited sutras for him to be saved after his death, he has been reincarnated as a human being. He is also in Malaysia now, and is a seventeen-year-old beautiful girl.”
After listening to the words of the old monk Miaofa, Hao Jushi seemed to be lost in thought. Suddenly she shouted in surprise: “‘Winnie’ has been dead for exactly seventeen years! Master, you are really amazing! Tell me, this girl now lives in Where, what’s her name? I really want to see her right away!”
Master and everyone present laughed.
I asked Jushi Hao: “If you find her, what will you say? Tell her, ‘Are you a dog our family used to raise?’ It would be strange if she didn’t beat you!”
Jushi Hao also laughed sheepishly.
Master said kindly: “We are destined to come thousands of miles to meet each other. Maybe one day she will meet you and hit it off like old friends, and she will repay you twice as much. As the old saying goes, “A hundred years of cultivation will lead to the same boat crossing.” So today we are colleagues, neighbors, friends, and relatives. , even our enemies, are the ones we have been destined to have for many lives. Therefore, we must form good karma and eliminate bad karma, so that we can maintain harmony and good fortune in the world…”
Master is so compassionate and good at observing opportunities and teasing others. This visit also benefited me a lot.
