Buddhist disciple’s wedding
Question: Young people who believe in Catholicism can hold their wedding in the church, which will appear grand, solemn and elegant. Does Buddhism oppose marriage between men and women? I have never heard of a Buddhist temple hosting a wedding for its own disciples.
Answer: The old monk Miaofa has an answer to this question in “Modern Cause and Effect Record”. Buddhism believes that it is natural for a man to marry a woman, and Buddhist lay disciples are no exception. I just hope that my disciples can build a Buddhist family after marriage and become a model for practicing at home.
To become a husband, one must be like a sister to his wife, never leave her, bear the burden of the family business, not be afraid of hardship, lead by example, and teach your children to be talented.
The way of a wife is to respect her husband and love her children, serve her parents-in-law, be diligent and thrifty in running the household, live within her means, share honor and disgrace, and never complain.
Venerable Master Xuanhua of the Holy City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in the United States presided over the wedding of his disciples Guo Shi and Guo Jin at the Changdi Holy Temple in 1994. The full text of the speech (discourse) delivered by the Master at the wedding is now published as follows. Serve the public:
The Book of Changes says: “One yin and one yang are called Tao, and partial yin and partial yang are called extremes.” When yin and yang are in harmony, the heaven and earth are beautiful, and all things are nourished; when yin and yang are not in harmony, the heaven and earth are not beautiful, and all things are not fertile, so From these verses, it can be seen that the way of a gentleman begins with husband and wife. Heaven is a big sky and people are a small sky. Therefore, every move of a person’s hand and every move should follow the example of heaven and earth.
The so-called yin and yang: men belong to Qian, and Qian belongs to Yang; women belong to Yin, and Yin belongs to Kun. Therefore, Qiankun is the beginning in the hexagram line, Qian hexagram is the three consecutive connections of Qian and Kun hexagram, then these are boys and girls. The boy is the hexagram Qian, and the boy is the hexagram Kun. This is the universe.
Then after getting married, the Qian hexagram becomes “Li Zhongxu”, and the Kun hexagram becomes “Kan Zhongman”, and they cooperate with each other, which becomes Kanli. Li is Li Zhongxu, and Kan is Kan Zhongman. The so-called way of a gentleman begins with the great relationship between husband and wife, and the relationship between men and women living together. This principle is to follow the laws of heaven and earth, and the laws of heaven and earth must be harmonious. Heaven and earth cannot be without harmony for a day, and human hearts cannot be without harmony for a while. happy God. Look, during this holy month of Ramadan, the vegetation is happy and the vegetation is happy; if there is strong rain and strong wind, the birds will be sad, and the birds will seem to cry.
From this point of view, we must follow the law of heaven and earth, there must be harmony in heaven and earth every day, and there must be joy in people’s hearts all the time. Therefore, after getting married, we must live together for a hundred years, and we must raise eyebrows together. We cannot be like these modern couples who get married and then don’t get along. Those who make the family a mess are those who cannot be a couple, which makes the family not like a family, the country not like a country, and people not like individuals. There is no order at all in this society.
So after the two of you get married, you must truly love each other. You cannot imitate these ordinary ways of getting married. You must always respect and love each other. Then when you love and respect each other, you should not be unfulfilling towards each other, so you must respect each other. Respect means treating each other with eyebrows, so the ancients said that treating each other with respect is like a guest.
Can you two be like this? (All answers): Yes!
We should always be together and respect each other as guests, and we should not be inseparable from each other, is that okay? (All answers): Yes!
Then you two have rings, let’s exchange rings with each other! (Master of Ceremony: They are exchanging rosary beads!) Exchanging rosary beads! That’s great for chanting Buddha’s name! Give birth to more children so that you can become monks! (Everyone laughs)
(The Master smiled and said) The two of you exchanged rosary beads. There is a word “heart” under the rosary beads. You must exchange hearts and sincerity! OK? Take care of yourself!
