What is the power of Buddhist mantra

The mantras that we Buddhist disciples usually recite are the words and words that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas utter from their meditation. The reason why it is called incantation is that before Buddhism was introduced to the Han Dynasty, there were also some unfinished worldly forbidden incantations in the Han Dynasty, which could bring about divine effects and eliminate disasters. They were similar to the miraculous effects of Buddhist mantras on eliminating disasters and obstacles and evoking magical powers. , so I translated it according to the custom; the mantra is also called Dharani, and Dharani translated into Chinese means always holding, holding on to good dharma and not letting it go away, holding on to evil dharma and not letting it arise; the mantra can also be called a secret word, because ordinary people and People in the two vehicles cannot know it; the mantra can also be called the mantra, which means that what the Tathagata says is true and not false; the mantra is generally the Buddha emitting light and speaking it in the light, so it is also called Ming.

The merits and virtues of Buddha’s mantra are incredible. The Buddha said in the “First Surangama Sutra”: “Ananda! It is the light from the top of the Buddha’s head that gathers the subtle passages of the Dāpādāra secret Gadot, and gives birth to all the Buddhas in the ten directions. Through this mantra, the Tathagata of the ten directions attained supreme enlightenment. Perfectly pervasive consciousness… You who have learned yet to complete the cycle of reincarnation should be sincere in your resolve to become an Arahant. If you sit in the ashram without upholding this mantra, your body and mind will be far away from all evil things, and there will be no good point.” “Said by the Mother of the Seven Lords “The Chunti Dharani Sutra” says: “If there is a monk or a lay bodhisattva who cultivates the truth, if he recites and upholds this Dharani nine hundred thousand times, he will have the ten evils, the fourfold, and the five endless sins committed for countless eons, and all of them will be wiped out. , where he is born, he often encounters Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, is rich in wealth, and often goes home.” The Great Compassion Heart Dharani Sutra says: “When the Great Compassion Dharani is recited today, the teachers from the ten directions will come to prove it. Everything. All sins and obstacles will be eliminated. All the ten evils and five rebelliousness, slandering people and the Dharma, breaking fasts and precepts, destroying pagodas and temples, stealing monks’ belongings, polluting the holy life, etc. All evil karma and serious crimes will be eliminated. Only one thing can be eliminated, which is the curse. For those who have doubts, even small crimes and light karma will not be eliminated, let alone serious crimes. Although serious crimes are not eliminated immediately, they can still be the cause of enlightenment.”

My first understanding of the merits and power of Buddhist mantras began when my father suffered from illness:

My father has suffered from stomach problems for many years, and as he gets older, his stomach pain gets worse. It was a cold day, and my father rode to work after breakfast. At noon, he felt a rush of heat and nausea in his stomach, and with a “wow” sound, a large amount of bright red blood spurted out of his mouth, like a volcano erupting. Colleagues around him were frightened and at a loss. One of the colleagues quickly helped my father, laid him down on the sofa, and found my phone number from the address book.

After receiving the call, I rushed to the hospital where my father was being rescued as quickly as possible. In my hurry, I only carried a booklet of “Shrangama Mantra, Great Compassion Mantra, and Ten Minor Mantras” with me. When he arrived at the hospital, his father was lying on the bed in the emergency room, his face pale. Although he was receiving fluids, he was still vomiting blood from time to time. His mother was crying beside him because of anxiety and helplessness.

The emergency room of the hospital is like a hell on earth. Moans, cries, and shouts are endless, and all kinds of patients gather here. I quickly contacted and arranged to send my father to a relatively quiet ward. The doctor who came for the ward rounds said: “This patient vomited a lot of blood. If the condition is not controlled, the consequences will be disastrous. Your family members should pay attention to observation tonight. If he vomits blood again, blood transfusion will be done immediately.” After hearing the doctor’s words, The father raised his left hand with difficulty and shook it to signal that he would not transfuse blood. I quickly answered the doctor: “Then let’s keep a close watch tonight and contact you if anything happens. Thank you very much.” That night, I basically didn’t sleep much. I was very worried about my father’s condition. With a pious heart, I picked up ” Start reading and reciting the booklet “Shrangama Mantra, Great Compassion Mantra, and Ten Minor Mantras”. I am ashamed to say that this is the first time I have read and recited Buddhist mantras independently (previously I just played the recording of Buddhist mantras and listened and recited them). Although my pronunciation is sometimes inaccurate, I believe that sincerity leads to spiritual success, and the power of Buddha will definitely bless my father. . I don’t know how many times I read it, until my father and I felt warm and comfortable all over our bodies, and there was a peaceful atmosphere in the ward. Early the next morning, my father was going to undergo a painless gastroscopy. I silently chanted the holy name of Guanyin Bodhisattva, hoping for a miracle to happen. The power of the Buddha’s mantra is truly incredible. During the examination, the doctors were stunned. What they thought was a serious illness actually returned to normal incredibly quickly. The wound had healed and the possibility of cancer had been ruled out. A week later, the hospital’s diagnosis was: old gastric ulcer.

While my father was in the hospital, I also recited seven additional volumes of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s Original Vow Sutra for him, and released his life and dedicated it to him. After more than a week, my father recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

This incident has strengthened my confidence in learning Buddhism, and I believe in the incredible power of Buddhist mantras. I am determined to do my best to benefit all sentient beings, so that more people can listen to the Dharma and get rid of suffering and achieve happiness as soon as possible.

Tip: All Buddhist mantras have incredible merits and powers. As long as you don’t have any doubts about the mantras, and use compassion, equality, bodhicitta, respect, and the heart of benefiting all visible and invisible sentient beings in the Dharma Realm, you will be done. Chang Ming, pure and untainted, upholding the precepts and reciting mantras, will definitely benefit all sentient beings in the empty Dharma Realm, resolve grievances, turn bad conditions into good ones, and good conditions into Dharma conditions, and gain great freedom. Master Yin Guang said: “The most important thing in reciting sutras and mantras is to be sincere. Even if you don’t know the meaning, if you can be sincere and respectful, and uphold it with sincerity. Over time, your karma will naturally disappear and your mind will be clear, and you will still be able to directly access the Buddha’s intention.” We It should be followed according to the teachings.

Sharing this article is Dharma giving. The Buddha said that Dharma giving has immeasurable merits.
