About Master Xuanhua
Someone asked me: Why do we print the teachings of Master Xuanhua from the Holy City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in the front and back of a book about Master Miao? I told him that Master Xuanhua is the most respected Buddhist leader in the world among the contemporary Buddhist leaders. One of the masters of Buddhism, Master made a special trip to the United States to visit the Master more than ten years ago and witnessed the Master’s virtues and simple diet and daily life with his own eyes.
As far as the use of napkins is concerned, the Master starts from the edge when using it, and then folds the used parts. The next time he uses it, he uses it from the folded place, and then folds it again. The same is true when using it again. over. Sometimes a piece of paper can last for two days. When Master asked the Master why he was so frugal, the Master said that he did not have such great blessings and did not dare to waste it.
Another time, Master saw the sick Master, who was persuaded by his disciples to drink half a glass of oatmeal, then rinsed the glass with boiling water twice before drinking it, and finally added a little more boiling water to rinse the glass with his mouth and then swallowed it. When asked why the Master had to swallow the mouthwash, the Master said that there might be food in the gaps between the teeth and it should not be wasted since his mouth was not dirty.
Master once heard from several of the Master’s disciples that three young monks from Taiwan came to the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas to place orders. This was because most of the dishes eaten in the main dining hall of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas were those that had been cleared out of the supermarket and had begun to spoil. As long as they were not rotten when eating, The vegetable leaves and vegetables will not be thrown away.
The Master said that the purpose of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas is: I give to others when they take it, and I take it when others abandon it. One day at noon, as everyone was preparing to leave after fasting, three Taiwanese bhikkhus suddenly saw Master Xuan Gong coming in front of them, and they hurriedly put their hands together and saluted. With a smile on his face, the Master looked at the few bites of vegetables they had chewed and spit out on the dinner plates they had used, and asked: “Isn’t the food delicious?” One of the monks replied: “The vegetable leaves are a bit hard. It’s more than you can chew.”
After hearing this, the Master smiled, picked up the chewed vegetables with his hands, put it into his mouth, chewed it, swallowed it, and said with a smile: “I’m okay.” The three monks and the surrounding disciples all stared in surprise. Staring at the Master, the Master put all the chewed vegetables on the other two plates into his mouth, chewed and swallowed them, and then said: “Don’t waste what you can eat.”
When Master Xuan Gong walked out of the dining hall, a crowd of disciples knelt down behind him.
Master said: “Master Xuanhua is the return of Guanyin Bodhisattva. In Chinese history, Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty went through all kinds of difficulties and dangers to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from India and came to China. The eminent monk Jianzhen, the great monk, was determined to spread Buddhism from China to Japan. Master Xuangong was the first person to promote Buddhism in the West and translated Buddhist scriptures into languages of various countries, making Buddhism more popular in the West. The classics and teachings explained by Master Xuangong are not only easy to understand, but also every word is exquisite. He often hits the mark in one sentence, which makes people full of joy. He is kind yet majestic. He combines the four great majesties in one body, making people fear and love. This Buddhist theory I learned is from Master Xuanhua From what I have learned from the Prajna corpus, I can also say that Master Xuanhua is my master.”
However, I firmly believe in cause and effect and am able to uphold and practice it because of the “wonderful method” of Master Miaofa. Therefore, it is natural to quote Master Xuan Gong’s teachings, which is also approved by Master Miaofa.
