People often ask about the small variety of vegetarian food and the taste is monotonous. They don’t know how to cook without meat. They also say that since Buddhists are vegetarians, they buy fake chicken, duck, fish and other imitation vegetarian food, and eat fake food shyly. It’s better to be honest and open-minded, which seems to make some sense.
Dried vegetables
In fact, there are hundreds of varieties of green vegetables, which only increase or decrease depending on the season. Nowadays, there are more and more off-season vegetables produced in greenhouses. However, not only are they more expensive, but they are not products of nature and are not suitable for dining with guests at home. In order to add more vegetables, I will never buy vegetables from greenhouses. In fact, naturally grown vegetables are the best nutrients, and when combined with various soy products, they can completely meet nutritional needs. During the peak season of seasonal vegetables, I often choose varieties that can be dried into dried vegetables for winter consumption, such as eggplants, beans, white radish, phoenix mushrooms, etc., and used to make stuffing. They are quite good and taste better than those in greenhouses. The food is much more assured. As for taste, it can be said that a person who sincerely studies Buddhism and observes the precepts will never be obsessed with delicious food, because as he chants Buddha’s name, reads scriptures and understands principles every day, he will naturally lose his attachment to wealth, sex, fame, food and sleep.
Food gods help
One day you will suddenly find that the food you stir-fry is very delicious. Not only your own family members think it is delicious, but also guests from outside will praise the food. Sometimes it is just boiled cabbage and stir-fried shredded potatoes. Steamed buns and dumplings, even meat eaters praised them greatly after trying them, but when they went back to make them themselves, using the same ingredients, they couldn’t taste the same as what I made. I often hear people praising the delicious Arhat dishes in temples. Why can’t meat-eaters make such a simple chowder taste the way Buddhists make it? That’s because vegetarians who recite the Buddha’s name will have the help of the Food God when cooking and help you add seasonings. It can be said that this is also an offering from gods and humans.
Favorite dish
Not only that, even when you go to the market to buy food, the Food God will secretly guide you to buy the food you like. I often buy a pile of vegetables that may have been there for two days for one yuan. Maybe I know that I live a frugal life. The price is several times cheaper and the taste is just as good. My neighbors often want to buy such vegetables, but they don’t. Never touch it. Therefore, if you sincerely study Buddhism and help ghosts and gods, you will naturally understand when you develop clairvoyance.
“To endure hardship is to eliminate suffering, to enjoy happiness is to eliminate happiness.” I will accept what others don’t like. If I don’t hold on to anything and persevere, I will achieve it naturally.
Transitional food
As for the simulated chicken, duck, and fish meat, it is prepared for people who are new to Buddhism. It is a transitional food. It is like a person who has just started to quit smoking. When the craving for cigarettes comes, he puts a piece of candy in his mouth to relieve his mental illness. Old practitioners who have been observing the precepts for many years should not eat such tangible fake animal meat, because eating its form has already moved their mind. This is also the teaching of Master Xuan Gong.
Name it whatever you want
However, if you want to have more dishes, you can destroy the shape first before cooking. This is also a convenient method. The dishes can no longer be named after animals, such as changing the imitation chicken and duck meat into dices (small cubes). When paired with stir-fried dishes such as chestnuts, cashews, and peanuts, it can be called “Bodhi fruit.” Seafood such as simulated fish with seaweed can be cut into pieces and served with fungus or white fungus, a little green pepper, and then put on the plate with two small cherry persimmons. It is beautiful and can be named sea lotus. If it is served with yellow The golden mushroom can be called golden sea lotus, and so on. It is also interesting to name it as you like.
