Tingting is 30 years old this year, and her work and life have not been smooth. A few years ago, she could not resist the temptation of profit, quit her good job, and invested all her savings, plus a borrowed 100,000 yuan, in a private investment company for financial investment. Little did she know that this was a complete fraud company. After letting investors taste the sweetness of tens of thousands of yuan in interest at the beginning, the boss and employees collectively disappeared and ran away with the money. For this reason, Tingting not only lost all her savings, but also owed a lot of debts. In addition, 5 years ago, Tingting had a boyfriend, but the other party repeatedly committed adultery, causing her to lose her virginity and have an abortion, and the relationship ended in a breakup. Tingting has not found a suitable boyfriend so far, and relatives and friends have not been successful in introducing her.
On this day, Tingting’s mother Ai Ling suddenly came to my house alone and cried to me: “Guo Hong, I know you are writing a book about cause and effect stories, so please write about my karma! My sins are too great. My daughter’s current work and marriage are not going well, and all kinds of misfortunes are caused by me. It is because I, as a mother, have done too many bad things and have brought disaster to my children! Woo…” I quickly took a tissue to help her wipe her tears. Tingting’s mother was in great pain and began to repent her shameful past:
The beautiful Ai Ling was regarded as the apple of her parents’ eyes since she was a child. She had no worries about food and clothing, and she was given whatever she wanted. The superiority of life cultivated her bad habits of willful indulgence. During her school years, she never respected the teacher and was recognized as the “king” in the class. Even the teacher had to give her three points. After working, everything went smoothly in the early stage. Although she went to support the Northwest, because it was an industrial and mining enterprise, the female comrades there did not suffer much. She lived very freely and comfortably, and the more she was transferred to work, the better. She could even occupy one of the only two places for college admission that tens of thousands of people competed for. Before the age of 40, she was really in high spirits, but this was only the blessings accumulated in the past lives. While enjoying the blessings, she was also consuming them. Because she did not learn Buddhism and did not understand the truth, Ai Ling committed a heinous crime in a favorable situation.
In the industrial and mining enterprises with many men at that time, Ai Ling, who was beautiful, fair-skinned, tall and well-proportioned, was highly regarded by many men and became the object of everyone’s attention.
At first, she was still a relatively pure girl, but as her inner greed grew, Ai Ling could not withstand the temptation of money and fame. In order to achieve her goals, she had relationships with many leaders one after another. Although she temporarily gained pride in her work and increased her income, she had eight abortions due to her undisciplined life, which quickly exhausted her blessings and began to cause bad karma.
First of all, there was family disharmony. After marriage, the couple quarreled and fought all the time. The husband had been enduring for a long time, so he took out all his anger on his daughter Tingting. The young Tingting was often beaten by her father for no reason, and she had never received her father’s care. Because the mother’s fault affected the child, Tingting was not careful when dating a boyfriend when she grew up. Under the other party’s sweet words, she fell in love and accidentally had an abortion.
Secondly, she suffered from many diseases: she had four operations for appendicitis, but none of them were cured, leaving serious sequelae and unbearable pain; her heels were full of bone spurs, and she would feel severe pain if she walked carelessly; her gynecological diseases were even more serious, and she would faint every day due to dysmenorrhea during her menstrual period.
Thirdly, her work was not going well. Because of her various diseases, the leaders of the unit began to stay away from Ai Ling. She had no choice but to retire early due to illness. After retiring due to illness, she had to rest at home and could not go to work again because of the burden of illness.
These retributions are only the flower retribution. In the future, they will suffer immeasurable pain in the three evil ways, just as it is said in the Ksitigarbha Sutra: “If there are men and women who do not do good deeds or do evil deeds, or even do not believe in cause and effect, commit adultery and lie, speak ill of others, or slander the Mahayana, all sentient beings with such karma will surely fall into the evil ways.”
Ai Ling cried bitterly while recounting the past that she could not bear to look back on with a repentant heart. Now that she has learned Buddhism, she knows that all the pain she has suffered is her own fault. Planting evil causes will bring evil results. Karma and retribution follow like a shadow. Now she sincerely repents in front of the Buddha every day for all the sins she committed in the past due to her ignorance and greed. She kneels down every day to recite the Ksitigarbha Sutra, and prays for the Buddha’s blessing to change the current situation as soon as possible. At the same time, she wants to warn everyone with her own experience: it is difficult to be born as a human being, and it is difficult to hear the Dharma. We must cherish it, learn Buddhism well, and actively do good deeds. If the blessings are exhausted, disasters will come. I said to her, “You will suffer the consequences of your own actions, not others. The reason why parents’ behavior and morality directly affect their children’s future, family, marriage, etc., and the saying that the good deeds of ancestors benefit their descendants and the evil deeds of ancestors bring disaster to their descendants, is the principle of the same karma in Buddhism, that is, they will attract descendants with the same karma to come to their home, and even attract people with the same karma as their partners. Therefore, parents should set an example, do good and cherish blessings, be filial to the elderly, teach their children, and never forget the teachings of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and great monks. They should truly implement faith, aspiration, and action in their lives. Only in this way can the family prosper and the children become successful.” At this time, Ai Ling made a vow: I must practice diligently in this life, benefit all living beings, escape from life and death, leave the three realms, go to paradise, and achieve Buddhahood.
Two months later, I heard that Tingting had found a stable job, and her mother Ai Ling’s illness had improved. She no longer had to rely on taking medicine every day to control the pain, and the family gradually became harmonious. I believe that with the blessing of Buddha, Ai Ling and her family will have a better and happier future after reforming!
Tip: Volume 12 of the Great Wisdom Treatise says: “… Just like a beautiful woman. When a lustful person sees it, he thinks it is pure and wonderful, and his heart becomes stained; when a person with an impure view sees it, he sees all kinds of filth, and there is no clean place; when a woman sees it, she becomes jealous, angry, and hates it, and does not want to see it, thinking it is impure. Lustful people see it as pleasure, jealous people see it as suffering, pure people see it as enlightenment, and people without hesitation see it as nothing, like seeing earth and wood. If this beautiful woman is really pure, the four types of people should all see it as pure; if it is really impure, the four types of people should all see it as impure. Therefore, we know that beauty and ugliness are in the heart, and there is no fixed outside. The same is true for observing emptiness.” This tells us that letting go of discrimination and attachment is the right way to practice. The ancestors accumulated virtues, and the descendants benefited, and they were all in the same industry. Parents are the first teachers of their children. When children have many problems, parents should first reflect on what they have done. Parents play an educational role that is subtle and imperceptible. Therefore, parents should set a good example themselves, respect their elders, educate their children, do good deeds and accumulate virtue, so that the family will be harmonious and happy.
