Serious illness requires sincere repentance
According to Chinese traditional medicine, the causes of illness include:
Six evils (wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, fire)
Seven emotions (joy, anger, worry, thoughts, sadness, fear, surprise), overwork, overwork, improper diet and other factors.
If the patient’s righteousness is sufficient and the evil qi has not invaded, he will recover quickly as long as he takes a certain amount of rest or some drug treatment; if the evil qi has gained the upper hand and the righteousness is insufficient, various methods must be used to strengthen the body and eliminate the evil.
Among them, combined with medical treatment, the fastest and best way to recover from serious illnesses caused by karma is to repent sincerely in Buddhism.
Volume 15 of “Maha Zhi Kuan” says: “If a person is sick due to karma, he should use his power of observation internally and repent externally, so that he can get better.”
What is described here is a real case that happened around us in 2007. As a medical worker, I can hardly explain this phenomenon using modern medical common sense, but Buddhism can explain it clearly.
One day in August 2007, Teacher Guo Qing and I visited a layman’s home. After learning about it, a friend named Li hurried over… During the conversation, Xiao Li excitedly talked about how she Benefit from Buddhism.
In mid-March 2007, Xiao Li suffered the biggest hardship in his life: a car accident. Her right leg was shattered in the car accident and the entire right leg bone was broken into four parts.
The doctor told me that it will take at least a year for this leg to slowly recover its function. From now on, the right knee can only be bent to a maximum of 45 degrees, and the left and right rotation functions of the right leg will be completely lost. To restore the rotation function, it is necessary to After three more surgeries to smooth out the muscles, there was hope.
In the eyes of the doctor, it was not easy for Xiao Li’s right leg to be completely preserved.
While she was in the hospital, Xiao Li was lucky enough to get a copy of “Modern Cause and Effect Record” that she got from a friend. The stories in the book suddenly reminded her of all the killings she had committed while living in Xinjiang and the countless sentient beings she had eaten:
The bloody scenes of chopping beef legs, chopping sheep’s hooves, eating chicken, eating live shrimps, and killing live fish flashed before my eyes one by one. In order to satisfy my appetite, I have created countless killing karma. Isn’t it the retribution that my right leg bone was broken into four parts in the car accident? With a heart of repentance, Xiao Li decided to become a vegetarian and practice Buddhism.
When she returned home to recuperate, Xiao Li’s husband strongly opposed her on the issue of vegetarianism. He is a non-believing person who loves Xiao Li very much and is deeply afraid that she will lack nutrition due to her vegetarian diet, so he insists and refuses to give in. Looking at her stubborn husband, Xiao Li suddenly remembered what the doctor said during his hospitalization: “It can be seen from the film that your osteoporosis symptoms are very serious.
So she had an idea and said to her husband: “Since I have been eating meat for more than 30 years, and the doctor said that I still have such severe osteoporosis, you might as well let me try to eat a vegetarian diet for a few weeks and see the effect.” . If it is really not good for my health, I will continue to eat meat. If I feel better after becoming a vegetarian, I will continue to be a vegetarian, okay? “
After hearing this, the husband had to reluctantly agree for the time being. In fact, Xiao Li was very nervous and not very sure, but with faith in Buddhism, he began to insist on a vegetarian diet and chanted the Buddha’s name diligently. Six weeks later, new bone callus was clearly visible in the new films, the broken bones began to heal, and the osteoporosis was significantly improved. The doctor also felt strange about this and asked Xiao Li if he had used any good medicine elsewhere. Xiao Li looked at her husband with a smile. From then on, her husband no longer objected to her becoming a vegetarian and practicing Buddhism.
Seeing that his injured bones healed so quickly and so well, Xiao Li understood that this was the miraculous effect of studying Buddhism, so he studied Buddhism more diligently and deeply, confessed his karma, knelt down and recited the Ksitigarbha Sutra to dedicate to those who had hurt him of sentient beings. Before chanting, Xiao Li carefully used a carpet to increase the height of his right knee, which could only be slightly bent. Then, enduring the pain of the wound, with tenacious perseverance and sincere repentance, he gritted his teeth and insisted on kneeling and reciting the complete ” Ksitigarbha Sutra.
The strange thing is that after she stood up with sweat on her face, she suddenly felt much lighter. Her right knee could bend to 45 degrees and turn slightly to the left and right. This phenomenon was even more unexpected by the doctor. After another week of practicing, repenting, and reciting a total of seven parts of the Ksitigarbha Sutra, Xiao Li’s right knee was able to bend to 80 degrees. This can not but be said to have created a medical miracle.
While Xiao Li was excitedly recounting her experience, I suddenly felt that although Xiao Li tried hard to quit killing, eat vegetarian food, and recite sutras, her bad temper (unreasonably reprimanding her son and scolding her husband) had not changed. So I said to her: “You should also change your bad temper and admit your mistakes to your husband and son.”
Xiao Li’s face suddenly turned red, and she lowered her head and confessed: “I used to have a bad temper, and I often quarreled with my family. Sometimes I couldn’t control myself. I want to change, I must change…” At this time, she saw her body turning At the Buddha statue on the west side, he knelt down with a plop, crying and repenting of all the wrong things he had done in the past.
When she finished her confession and was helped up by us, Xiao Li, with tears on her face, suddenly said in surprise: “Look, everyone, I can kneel down with my right leg. The knee can bend to 90 degrees, and it can move to the left and right.” The direction of rotation also feels much more comfortable. It’s incredible. Thank you so much for the blessing. I will definitely study Buddhism well.”
One month after that meeting, Xiao Li completely threw away his crutches and appeared in front of people with a new look, persuading patients, family members and friends to firmly believe in cause and effect, change evil into good, and learn Buddhism as soon as possible. I would like to warn everyone with my own personal experience: If you are seriously ill, you must repent sincerely!
This incident reminds every Buddhist practitioner to follow what is said in the Sutra: “Always examine oneself and avoid making mistakes.” Always check and observe what you are doing and what your thoughts are, if there is anything that is not as good as the Dharma. He should immediately repent and make corrections, and not let his actions increase his mistakes.
Tip: The three examples of “serious crimes are lightly reported”, “the power of repentance” and “sincere repentance of serious illnesses” all tell everyone the power and importance of repentance.
“The Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddha’s Speech Sutra” says: “The Buddha said: People have many faults, but they do not regret themselves. If they calm down their minds, the sins will come and go to the body. Like water returning to the sea, it gradually becomes deeper and wider. If a person has made mistakes, he will never regret it. If you understand what is wrong and do good deeds, your sins will disappear, just like a disease caused by sweating will gradually heal your ears.”
Sins arise from the heart and must be confessed with the heart. If the heart is extinguished, the sins will also be extinguished. When the heart is extinguished and the sins are extinguished, both will be in vain. This is called true repentance. True repentance can eliminate all sins and karma. Even if it is the five major sins, there is a way to gradually eliminate them through repentance.
“The Mahatma Sutra” contains “A Bodhisattva should be alone in front of the thirty-five Buddhas day and night and repent sincerely” as a method to eliminate the five negative and serious crimes. Understand cause and effect, truly know your faults, never commit them, and your sins can be forgiven.
