The Police and the Millionaire

Xue Cheng and Shi Ting are a young and loving couple. The man is successful in his career and handsome; the woman is elegant and graceful. They are regarded as a perfect match in people’s eyes. However, such an enviable couple often sighs and frowns. It turns out that the couple has a pair of children. The younger daughter, Nannan, was specially brought by Xue Cheng from Putuo Mountain. She is very cute and behaves well when she sees outsiders, but she has a bad temper when she is at home. She often quarrels and beats people.

In order to make his daughter obedient, Xue Cheng embarked on the path of learning Buddhism. He often recited scriptures and released animals for Nannan, but Nannan not only did not get better, but also often caught a cold and had a fever. What’s more strange is that as long as Xue Cheng is not at home, Nannan’s various adverse symptoms will improve. Xue Cheng has been very worried about this precious daughter. Not only does he spend money, but the overdraft of his mental strength makes this successful man feel the pain of life. Helpless Xue Cheng asked for help: “I can’t hold on any longer. This daughter makes me worry too much and too tired. Did I owe her in my previous life? If I really owe her, how should I repay her?”

Listening to his sad story, I told him: Children are born to their parents, some have bad karma, some have good karma. The daughter made her parents feel miserable. There is no good karma between you. This bad karma was formed in Shanghai in the 1930s.

In the old Shanghai in the 1930s, in a police station, the director Lao Hu and his subordinate Xiao Guo had a good relationship and trusted each other. A sensational kidnapping case occurred in the local area. A powerful gang leader kidnapped a local rich man because of personal grudges.

The rich man’s family was extremely anxious and found the police chief Lao Hu, asking for help in rescuing the hostages. The greedy Lao Hu took advantage of the situation and offered a high price before agreeing to help solve the matter. He sent his subordinate Xiao Guo to investigate the case. Although Xiao Guo found out who was behind the scenes, the gang leader paid a higher price to bribe Lao Hu and Xiao Guo, so the two colluded, shielded and let the criminals go, and perfunctorily dealt with the victim’s family, which eventually led to the death of the rich man (strangled to death). The police chief was Xue Cheng’s previous life, and Xiao Guo was his wife Shi Ting. Because he vowed to take revenge at the end of his past life, the rich man was reborn as his daughter Nannan with hatred. The gang leader is still suffering in hell because of his evil deeds.

I said to Xue Cheng: “Although you have started to learn Buddhism now, your repentance is not strong enough. The rich man who was killed for no reason will not let you go easily. So you must keep the precepts: do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not lie, do not drink alcohol, always practice the ten good deeds, and recite the “Ksitigarbha Sutra” to dedicate to your daughter. You must persevere and not slack off. No matter how big the difficulties you encounter, you must regard them as tests and think of them as eliminating karma and repaying debts. If you can really do this, after five or six years of hard work, there will definitely be results.”

Afterwards, half a year later, Xue Cheng called me with excitement and joy in his voice: his daughter Nannan had improved significantly, and his wife Shi Ting, who was previously weak, had gradually recovered. He vowed to study Buddhism well and make persistent efforts to make the whole family a Buddhist family as soon as possible.
