“The Lotus Sutra of Wonderful Dharma – Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’s Universal Door” says: “The Buddha speaks to Infinite Intention Bodhisattva, good man! If there are countless hundreds of thousands of billions of sentient beings who are suffering from various sufferings and hear the name of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva will immediately observe them. All sounds will be liberated.”
Super typhoon
One day in late July 1998, a new round of super typhoons made landfall. At 10 PM, I had to go to work for the night shift. As usual, before going out, I recite the Buddha’s name “Namo Guanyin Bodhisattva” for ten minutes, then put on my raincoat and ride out. Strong winds and heavy rain were blowing in our faces. There were no pedestrians on the road or cars in sight. I chanted the Buddha’s name and rode slowly against the wind and rain, and everything was normal. But when I turned right and was about to approach an intersection, I suddenly felt my heart beat faster, my chest felt tight and congested, and it was difficult to breathe.
Stop and take a break
At that time, I was very confused: I had never had heart disease and my last physical examination was in good health. Why did I suddenly feel unwell? It’s better to take a break and stop quickly. Interestingly, as soon as I parked my car, my chest tightness and other symptoms disappeared without a trace, and my body returned to normal immediately.
Big truck
Suddenly, a truck drove out from nowhere less than 1 meter away from the front of the bicycle and flew past me in an instant. The driver did not notice anyone on the road at all. This sudden scene made me understand immediately. If I drove one meter further forward, I would definitely be hit by a large truck and the consequences would be catastrophic. If it weren’t for Buddha’s power, I might have died a long time ago.
I am extremely grateful to the merciful and compassionate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. This incident has strengthened my faith in reciting the name of the Buddha and my belief in the compassion and aspiration of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
