Two cent pickles

A female lay Buddhist who had just entered Buddhism in her early sixties and her husband asked the old monk for advice. Her 41-year-old son began to suffer from psoriasis on his head a few years ago, and it has now spread to his forehead, and even the nails on his hands also have psoriasis. It has become very thick, and many medical treatments are ineffective. Please ask the old monk for some compassionate enlightenment.

The old monk asked: “A month and a half before you gave birth to your son, were you ever angry about money?”

Answer: “No.”

The old monk said: “You can usually remember things during pregnancy. Think about it carefully.”

After waiting for a moment, they both said almost at the same time: “That’s what happened!”

The female layperson said: “It was 1960. Due to natural disasters, the supply of various foods was tight. Even buying pickles was rationed and was supplied based on non-staple food. Even when I was more than 7 months pregnant with my son, I remember that I still had two cents left to buy pickles. , but the salesperson at the non-staple food store said that I had bought it. When I looked at the book, it was indeed recorded as “purchased”. My mother-in-law must have bought it for her daughter in Heilongjiang. When I got home and asked, it turned out to be the case. For this reason, I I had a quarrel with my mother-in-law, and he (referring to my husband) spoke for his mother and even kicked me.”

Although the female lay practitioner said with a wry smile, she could not control her tears of excitement:

“I have forgotten such a small thing after 41 years. You and I met for the first time, but you can tell me that you must be the Bodhisattva who has returned!”

The old monk said to her kindly: “The fetus is in the womb and can feel the mother’s emotions, but it can’t communicate with the outside world. Being angry with your mother-in-law not only violates the general ethics, but also hurts yourself and the womb.” The fetal brain nerves are the cause of his illness today. Only repentance can eliminate sinful karma. Of course, it is also due to his own reasons for killing animals and eating meat. He should abstain from eating meat. Can you read the Ksitigarbha Sutra?”

Answer: “Yes, not very familiar with it.”

“Recite one Ksitigarbha Sutra every day until he fully recovers.”
