It seems that one morning in the autumn of the year 2000, the old monk Miaofa was explaining Buddhism to a dozen people at a layman’s home. Suddenly a middle-aged man walked quickly outside the door. He knelt at the old monk’s feet as soon as he entered the door, and eagerly begged the master to come. Go to his house and save his wife. Master asked him not to be anxious and to explain the matter clearly.
Internal anal hemorrhoids
It turned out that his wife started having difficulty defecating a month ago. Soon, she also had difficulty urinating. She couldn’t finish urinating in half an hour and couldn’t leave the bathroom for two hours. That’s when he decided to go to the hospital for a check-up. It turned out to be internal hemorrhoids in the anus, which had developed. It’s the size of a steamed bun (no exaggeration at all). It’s now difficult to even walk, and I feel very painful. The doctor blamed her for not thinking about going to the hospital until now. She said it didn’t hurt or itch, but she didn’t expect it to be so serious. The doctor said it must be surgically removed immediately, but it was risky. He had undergone many internal hemorrhoidectomy surgeries before, and one of them died from massive bleeding, but the internal hemorrhoids were not that big.
We were having a hard time making this decision. We heard that Master was coming, and we begged Master to save her for mercy. Master thought for a while and said, “Your wife is practicing well and diligently. Have you and your husband lived in separate rooms?” “Yes, Master. Several couples here are practicing the four pure and clear teachings of the Shurangama Sutra.” Practice and get rid of lust. This is not as simple as quitting killing, eating meat, taking advantage, and telling lies. She insisted on it, so I had no choice but to obey her. I am not in her state. Even though I was reluctant, I knew her. That’s right. I finally followed her. Whatever succeeds her, it also succeeds me. But she is so diligent, how could she get such a result?”
Ordinary people fear fruit
The old monk smiled and said, “Isn’t this a bad result? Bodhisattvas fear causes and ordinary people fear consequences. People who practice according to Dharma will definitely have demonic obstacles appear, which can also be said to be karma. This is precisely because of diligence. And it’s not a bad thing to have her karma early. Otherwise, why wouldn’t such a big internal hemorrhoid be painful? She has difficulty moving, so just take me to your home.
His home was not too far away, and more than ten people present gathered later.
The sick layman, whose surname was Chen, had practiced hereticism for many years. After encountering Buddhism, he led his brothers, sisters, and 20 or 30 children in the Chen family to convert to Buddhism. From the elderly in their sixties to the grandchildren in their teens, all of them have given up eating meat at once. In their words, it is called “one size fits all.” And almost all of them can recite the Shurangama Mantra. Even the eldest and second sisters of the illiterate layman Chen can recite the Surangama Mantra sentence by sentence, and they can recite it to the rhythm of the wooden fish in the morning class in the temple. When I saw it with my own eyes , I really admire them! For other things, such as the morning and evening classes, the Great Compassion Mantra, and the Ten Small Mantras, many of Mr. Sun can recite or recite them fluently.
Jushi Chen is the recognized “center” of this big family. Even her eldest brother, who is the director of a large factory, listens to her on spiritual practice. But now she is lying quietly on the bed, with an expression on her face as if she is waiting for death. . When he saw the old monk entering the room, he seemed very excited. He said gratefully: “Oh, Master is here to save me.” He tried to sit up from the bed, but the old monk stopped him.
Sold fabric
The master sat in the chair that had just been moved to the bedside and asked kindly, “Have you ever opened a shop and sold fabrics in the past? Chen replied, “You did, but you stopped doing it a long time ago.” “Have you ever had a quarrel with a customer? “Have you ever scolded anyone? – the old monk asked again. When doing business, I meet all kinds of customers. I must have argued with some customers, but I never curse,” Master asked again. “It seems that a woman in her thirties asked you to return a piece of fabric. You two got into an argument. You hurt others with your words. Think about it.
As soon as Master finished speaking, Master Chen immediately said excitedly, “Oh, I remembered, this happened.” In the past few years, I have often repented of my sins whenever I thought of them. How could I have forgotten this incident? About five or six years ago, a female customer took a fancy to a flower I hung among the many fabrics outside the store on the street. I pulled a few meters of cloth for her from the bundles of cloth in the store. It seemed like the next day, she came back and asked for a return. How could I agree? I said you liked the cloth, and I pulled it off for you. , if you want to return it, who should I sell it to?
She said nonchalantly: The color of the floral cloth I pulled from the store was different from the floral cloth hanging outside the door, and she compared the floral cloth she bought with a sample hanging outside the door. Because the sample outside the door had been hanging outside for many days, and had naturally faded a bit due to exposure to wind and sun, the newly torn cloth in her hand was the original color, but she insisted that it was “different” and made a fuss with me to return it. I was really a little angry at the time, so I retorted to her: “Can the one inside the house be the same as the one in the open air? Can your face and butt be the same? I was giving her an analogy. Can it be regarded as scolding her?”
Master saw that she was very excited and said with a smile: “Were there many people watching at that time?” Chen said: “Yes, it was a bustling street. She was making a lot of noise and messing around. Of course, many people gathered around to watch the fun, and they didn’t I supported her return and said she was unreasonable.” The master asked again: “After you said that metaphor, did the crowd burst into laughter and some asked her to take off her pants and compare her face?” “It seems so.” . “Then think about it, your metaphor may be right in theory. If you are facing a man, it may not be a big problem, but for women, it has to be a kind of humiliation. You are now a How can a layman who has received Bodhisattva vows not repent of such a karma? It seems that you returned the goods to her in the end, right?” “Yes. That’s because someone advised me that if I continue like this, it will affect my business, so why not be more generous and eat it? I returned the goods to her at a small loss. With so many people watching, I actually gave myself some publicity. I accepted the advice as soon as it made sense, and when she said she had nothing to say, I returned the goods to her. But Master “The metaphor I used was meant to humiliate her. I never thought of that before. But as soon as you pointed it out, it really had the effect of humiliating her in public. Why didn’t I think of that before?”
Cut off all evil and cultivate all good
The old monk Miaofa said, “A person who is determined to practice Buddhism should not only abandon all evil and practice all good deeds, but also think about and repent of the karma he has created in this life. I have completely forgotten all the verbal karma I created this time, and this is the only reason why this evil fruit has come to fruition. Now that the evil fruit has matured, it is also the time to fall. Close your door and reflect on your mistakes today, and come see me tomorrow.”
Early the next morning, layman Chen rode his bicycle to see the old monk Miaofa. You said it was wonderful or not, but the internal hemorrhoids as big as steamed buns disappeared. This incident educated many Buddhist practitioners around me, especially Master Chen’s sister. She opened a shop selling shoes a few years before. At that time, she was a strong woman and had never suffered a loss. Who would do it? If you offend her, you can’t do anything serious without scolding her for two hours. Although she had repented after learning Buddhism, her education made her sit down again and start “searching” seriously. To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on in my heart, so I need to think about it carefully.

May this merit be used to eliminate past and present karma
Increase all blessings and wisdom, refine the roots of good virtue.
All tribulations with swords, battles, hunger, etc.
All will be destroyed and everyone will learn to be courteous.
