Why not put a Buddha on the ground?

In the Buddhist faith, the statue of Buddha represents the wisdom, compassion and enlightenment of the Buddha, and is an important object of veneration and worship for Buddhists.

Veneration

The statue of Buddha has an important symbolic meaning in Buddhism, representing the supremacy of the Buddha. Therefore, Buddhist rituals require the faithful to treat the statue with devotion and respect. Historically, people have also attached great importance to the protection of and respect for the statue of Buddha.

Disrespectful Placement on the Ground

The ground is often regarded as a dirty, lowly place, easily disturbed by dust. In Buddhist culture, people should treat the statue of Buddha in a noble manner, and place it in a higher position than normal people to show their respect. Buddhist scriptures also have relevant guidance, required to be placed in a clean, solemn place.

Spiritual Impact

Placing a Buddha statue on the ground may weaken people’s respect for the Buddha, affecting their faith mentality and belittling their spiritual practice. At the same time, placing Buddha statues in high places helps to remind people to maintain positive thoughts.

Precautions

In the family environment, the statue of Buddha is most suitable to be placed in the Buddha Hall, living room, study and other relatively solemn and quiet areas, and should not be placed in bedrooms, kitchens and other private or dirty places. We have to choose the right high place to place the statue of Buddha.

Placing a statue on the ground is not in keeping with the Buddhist tradition of reverence and may have a negative impact on one’s faith and practice. We should treat the statue with reverence and respect and place it above eye level.
